rudolf stingel

Rudolf Stingel is one of the greatest living painters. In the past his work “has taken aim at the transcendental ambitions and metaphysical loftiness of various moments from the history of art.” His new show at Paula Cooper furthers this by deepening “his exploration of portraiture to present a series of new paintings that constitute a kind of cultural self-portrait.” Very timely.

I had forgotten how much I like Lisa Yuskavage’s work. Her show at David Zwirner is a must-see.

tehching hsieh

Tehching Hsieh is everywhere these days. Which is a good thing. The MoMA’s inaugural installation of performance pieces features the first of his five One Year Performances. For a nice history lesson read an interview he gave to the Brooklyn Rail in 2003.
